Monami is a new and unique software application for Android, designed to record and monitor the welfare of animals in one friendly package.
Monami can be used for a variety of recording, assessment, monitoring and evaluation purposes, by veterinarians, paravets, animal welfare scientists and field assessors, farmers, animal owners, students and non-governmental organisations.
Monami is ideal for rapidly recording groups or populations of animals, for example on a farm, animal sanctuary, mine, quarry, brick kiln, village, tourist resort, on the street, in transit, in an abattoir, working animals or hoarded animals, to name a few instances.
Monami is based on user-configurable templates, including settings for protocol, species, measures, guidance, values, grades, goals and default tags. Templates can be based on your own measures, publically available measures from animal welfare organisations, or a mix or the two. Templates can be shared and freely downloaded.
Monami can be used for a range of common domestic animals, for example cows, sheep, goats, camels, buffalo, horses, donkeys, mules, pigs, dogs and cats.
Monami uses five main measure fields and an unlimited amount of categorised tags or user-phrases, which can be further refined using seven qualifiers.
Monami has a useful selection of built-in tools to automatically analyse your data and presents the results in a very visual and appealing manner. A host of standard reports are easily accessible from the menu, with no querying or filtering operations required by the user.
Monami can assess whether the welfare of a group of animals reaches a minimum defined standard. Monami can also show how close or far the welfare of the animals is from the goal or target.
Monami can be used to monitor the welfare of a group of animals over time, visually representing progress.
Monami compares the welfare of two groups of animals, for example between two villages or brick kilns.
Monami main measures can be used to record in general terms, e.g. 'health' or 'behaviour', with categorised tags, or in more specific terms, e.g. 'front feet'.
Monami can export a complete archive of data, graphs and photographs into a zip file for opening in a database, spreadsheet or Monami Desktop (forthcoming).
Monami is at late stage development and we are seeking beta testers, particularly people with an active interest in animal welfare assessments. An Android phone or tablet is required. All beta testers will receive training and a free copy of Monami.
